Frittelli Arte Contemporanea is delighted to announce Paolo Masi 93, an exhibition curated by Sergio Risaliti and dedicated to Paolo Masi (Florence, 1933–2026), who passed away on 6 May, just a few days before his 93rd birthday.
The exhibition is conceived as a tribute to one of the most original and radical figures in Italian contemporary art of the late twentieth century and the early decades of the new millennium. Featuring a selection of works spanning over sixty years of artistic exploration, Paolo Masi 93 aims to convey the complexity of an artistic journey that was constantly open to experimentation, in which painting, material, structure, space and perception interact seamlessly.
This artistic exploration had its starting point and a constant point of reference in Florence, yet it has transcended the boundaries of the local scene, establishing itself within the broader context of Italian and international art.
‘Throughout his long career, Masi has consistently distinguished himself with the rigour and radicalism of an undisputed modernist artist. And this makes him a role model for many artists of the younger generations’, emphasises curator Sergio Risaliti, highlighting an essential characteristic of his work: the ability to maintain, over time, an extraordinary drive towards experimentation.
The exhibition itinerary ideally follows the different phases of Masi’s artistic development, highlighting not so much a succession of rigidly distinct stages as the continuity of an exploration that has constantly challenged the conventions and materials of painting.
