We are pleased to announce that the exhibition Pino Pascali. Disegnare una fotografia [Drawing a Photograph] curated by Roberto Lacarbonara has been extended until 14 September 2024.
The exhibition, realised in collaboration with the Fondazione Pino Pascali (Polignano a Mare) and the photographic archives of Claudio Abate (Rome), Elisabetta Catalano (Rome), Marcello Colitti (Rome) and Ugo Mulas (Milan), investigates Pascali's frequent recourse to the photographic medium, observing how the artist worked, on multiple occasions, on this side or on the other side of the lens: as an actor posing for a film, as a performer alongside his own sculptures, as a photographer capturing images for an advertising project, or as an illustrator engaged in “drawing a photograph”.
The latter is the case with Intermezzo 23, the sequence of original plates that was the subject of an extraordinary and recent discovery, which is at the origin of this exhibition and is being shown for the first time. It is an animated short drawn by Pascali for the advertising production company Lodolo Film in 1966 and destined for the newborn advertising container of the Secondo Canale RAI entitled Intermezzo. The protagonists of the curious play created by Pascali are the well-known Postero's, characters from an unlikely “archaic future” grappling with the discovery of archaeological objects dated “in ten thousand years ago”, which we also find in other works exhibited here.
The exhibition presents also: a selection of drawings characterised by the use of photographic supports, techniques and materials (films, emulsion papers, enlargements, contact prints, photograms, photopaintings); a collection of shots from the Fondazione Pino Pascali in Polignano a Mare, directly taken by the artist between Rome and Naples in 1965, on the occasion of the advertising production of a Carosello for the Cirio company, as well as the film and photographic images of Pascali in the guise of Pulcinella and Pazzariello, interpreted for the same Carosello; the extraordinary images from the archives of great Italian photographers such as Claudio Abate, Elisabetta Catalano, Marcello Colitti and Ugo Mulas, which testify to the happy and spontaneous performativity of the Apulian artist in front of the lens.
