To mark the 30th edition of MIART, Frittelli Contemporary Art presents, in the Established Anthology section, a project entirely dedicated to Lucia Marcucci and the lively, provocative irony of her works, in which she denounces the commodification of the female image and exposes the contradictions and ambiguities of the mass media.
This is the central theme of an artistic journey that spans from her early works of the 1960s, when she joined Gruppo 70, to her most recent works of the 2000s, in which she focuses on: on printed canvases, framed or unframed (examples include the banners of the Città larga cycle), in which she ‘tinkers’ with advertising images, sometimes using acrylic paint, at other times inserting letters with a stencil, or creating assemblages of various samples (the Poesia dislessica series); on the blending of journalistic language, advertising slogans and the language of comics, working in particular on the Livorno-based satirical newspaper “Il Vernacoliere”.
Also on display are object/subject books, which occupy a middle ground between works on paper and the book as an object, reflecting the evolution of language.
