On Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 5:30 pm, the opening of the exhibition Lucia Marcucci. Venezia Salva - Salva Venezia in the Stanze of our gallery, which will exhibit for the first time the original paintings of the artist's book Weil. Letters produced by Frittelli arte contemporanea in 2009.
The artist, inspired by the figure of philosopher Simone Weil and her tragedy entitled Venise sauvée, created 34 works + 1 in mixed media, which have an esoteric and evocative meaning of Weil's imaginary and mystical world: her sacrifice for the redemption of humanity, the number of years she lived. The 34 is also symbolic of Durerian melancholy, the Saturnian brooding over ultimate destiny.
The paintings contain phrases from Weil's writings and are traced with a fluid but also uncertain writing, as if the great philosopher tremblingly suffered her illness like Christ on the slopes of a most painful Golgotha.
It is a pictorial-calligraphic world that Marcucci already explores in her canvases of the 1990s, which complete the exhibition and also allow for a better framing and understanding from a formal point of view of the works inspired by Simone Weil's tragedy.
These are large paintings that respond - in the words of Gillo Dorfles - to “a precise desire to give life to a sort of imaginative ‘vision of the world’ where a certain expressionist vein comes to replace the barriers of earlier conceptualism.”
Following this, at 6 p.m., as part of the Fabbrica Europa 2024 Festival, there will be a talk - with free admission - Lucia Marcucci. Between Art and Performance. An opportunity to tell and investigate traits and facets of the complex figure of the Florentine artist, pioneer with her multifaceted art between writing, sound and creative gesture, of the very concept of living multidisciplinary poetics.

BLEAH!!! is a word that acts. It creates a volume in the space between the palate and the lip, it creates a sound that is already meaning. In Lucia Marcucci's visual poem of the same name, this gesture-sound removes itself from the body's pronouncement and bursts onto the page, interrupting the perceptual expectation of its hearing to instead make itself said, seen, read. It is a commentary that becomes a work. Studying it together. This invitation is answered by the collaboration between choreographer and dancer Annamaria Ajmone and musician Laura Agnusdei, who are working together for the first time. Lucia Marcucci's imagery functions as an ice-breaking argument, the trigger for dialogue, the beginning of an encounter. It is a starting point that informs a process of research and work, which then takes its own drift.
