On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Georges Adéagbo presents Louvre Remix at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, part of the larger exhibition Les Copistes curated by Donatien Grau, consultant for contemporary programs at the Musée du Louvre, and Chiara Parisi, director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
Indeed, in an exceptional collaboration, the Museum invited a number of artists to choose works of art from the Louvre's collection and explore what copying means to them in our time. Georges Adéagbo chose: Portrait of a Black Woman (1800) by Marie-Guillemine Benoist and Liberty Leading the People (1830), Scenes from the Massacres of Scio (1824), Death of Sardanapalo (1819), and The Women of Algiers in their Apartment (1834) by Eugène Delacroix. His collaborator Benoît Adanhoumè spent months in Benin copying them. Their frames appear as fragments in the corners, to challenge who has the power to select and present. The texts were composed by Georges Adéagbo and painted by Adanhoumè. Production coordination by Stephan Köhler.
