Frittelli arte contemporanea is pleased to present the book and catalogue of the exhibition Pino Pascali. Disegnare una fotografia [Drawing a Photograph] curated by Roberto Lacarbonara, published by Electa Editore (Milan, 2024), on the occasion of the finissage of the exhibition, Friday, September 13th, 2024, at 6 pm.
During the event, the curator will dialogue with Leonardo Sonnoli (Trieste 1962), among the top international graphic designers, twice Compasso d'Oro in 2011 and 2018. Starting from Pascali's graphic work, Sonnoli will analyze the evolution, development and transformation of the graphic-publicity “craft”, with particular attention to the forms of connection and contiguity between design and contemporary art, also in relation to his own work carried out for international institutions such as Triennale di Milano, Biennale di Venezia, Château de Versailles, Palazzo Grassi - François Pinault Foundation, Centre Pompidou, Mart di Rovereto and Artissima. A dialogue aimed at actualizing the figure of the advertising designer that Pascali himself - as well documented in the volume - leads between 1959 and 1968, the year of his death.
The book, the first in a series dedicated to the artist and produced by the Archivio dell'Opera Grafica di Pino Pascali (Florence), was created in collaboration with the Fondazione Pino Pascali (Polignano a Mare) and the photographic archives of Claudio Abate (Rome), Elisabetta Catalano (Rome), Marcello Colitti (Rome) and Ugo Mulas (Milan).
Inside, in addition to two essays by Roberto Lacarbonara and a contribution by Antonio Frugis (Fondazione Pino Pascali), an extensive photographic documentation reconstructs the sequence of the original plates of Intermezzo 23 - an animated short drawn by Pascali for the production company Lodolo Film in 1966 and intended for the Second Channel RAI, in which the author ironically addresses his relationship with photographic technique and aesthetics - and explores the numerous occasions of his recourse to the photographic medium: from shots directly taken by the artist between Rome and Naples in 1965-66 (on the occasion of the advertising production of an advertising spot for the Cirio company) to collaborations with great Italian photographers, from whose images emerges the happy and spontaneous performativity of the Apulian artist in front of the lens, not without wearing extravagant masks and disguises.
