We would like to draw your attention to the opening on Saturday 12 September, at 6.00 pm, at the Gilda Lavia Gallery, of A che gioco stiamo giocando? [What game are we playing?], a group exhibition featuring the artists: Elena Bellantoni, Marco Bernardi, Élle de Bernardini, Pamela Diamante, Lucia Marcucci, Sofia Mari, Claudio Martinez, Maria Eugenia Moya, Giancarlo Mustich, Leonardo Petrucci and Federica Rugnone, curated by Anna Simone.
In an era radically marked by the digital revolution, where daily narratives and experiences are increasingly assimilated by the dynamics of gamification, turning war, the climate crisis, migration, and human relations into a "game", contemporary art is compelled to question its own agency and fundamental purpose.
Can artistic practice reclaim the urgency of a critical discourse, at once singular and collective, or is it fated to subside into a mere consumer commodity, an "Instagrammable" spectacle, and a superficial artifact of our contemporary moment? Curated by sociologist Anna Simone, the group exhibition A che gioco stiamo giocando? emerges precisely to unpack this crucial inquiry.
Lucia Marcucci is featured in the exhibition with: two early works from the Imprints series, Marx (1977) and Culturae (1977), in which the artist uses the imprint of her own body, adding inserts and inscriptions of a more intimate and reflective nature to highlight the hardships of the female condition – experienced first-hand throughout her career – due to the social and cultural conditions that have discriminated against women; and the more recent Kapital Wolf (2008), a metaphor for an economic system that devours, consumes and transforms everything into a commodity; a work in which the power of the advertising image is turned against itself, and the text, rather than explaining the image, destabilises it and compels the viewer to regard it critically.
