ARTEFIERA 2024

Frittelli arte contemporanea presents, for the 2024 edition of ArteFiera, a project inspired by the exhibition curated by Raffaella Perna in the gallery spaces dedicated to Group 70, one of the most radical movements on the Italian art scene of the 1960s (active from 1963 to 1968), which stood out for its crucial and pioneering role in the debate on the visual and social effects produced by mass culture during the economic boom.

Characterized by an interdisciplinary spirit and an openness to the future that is evident from the choice of name, Group 70 practices Visual Poetry as a “guerrilla”, in the sense of an operation that “uses not only words and images, but also light, gesture, [...] all visible tools of communication, and must necessarily and progressively tend to transform its own means [...] into those of mass communication until it seizes them [...] to transform society itself “with” them” (from Poesia e/o poesia. Situazione della poesia visiva italiana, by E. Miccini, 1972).

The exhibition brings into dialogue the artworks by Antonio Bueno, Giuseppe Chiari, Ketty La Rocca, Lucia Marcucci, Eugenio Miccini, Luciano Ori, and Lamberto Pignotti, emphasizing the continuity of the group's aesthetic and political vision that emerges both from the works created during the years of common activity and from the verbal-visual research carried out individually or through new magazines or cultural groups.

The attention to ecology, the denunciation of sexism and the subordinate role of women in patriarchal culture, the critique of colonialist thought and Western hegemony, openly pacifist beliefs, and the interest in economic and social imbalances due to the economic miracle still contribute today to the relevance of this movement and the renewed critical interest that has also emerged internationally.
